The Dare County Sheriff’s Office says it has received reports of political signs being stolen from public and private properties — and they’d like to remind folks that’s illegal.
“Under G.S. 136-32 (e) it is a Class 3 misdemeanor for a person to steal, deface, vandalize or unlawfully remove a political sign that is lawfully placed under this section,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post. “A Class 3 misdemeanor carries a maximum penalty of 20 days in jail and a $200 fine.”
If you see anyone stealing signs or know of this occurring, please contact Dare Central and file a report at 252-473-3444.
