Start planning your spring garden now with the Library Garden Series presented by the
NC State Extension’s Dare County Master Gardeners in conjunction with the Dare County Libraries. This year all programs will be offered “virtually” rather than in person. All programs will be on Wednesdays at 11:00 a.m. Presentations will last approximately one hour, and people can choose to attend one or all of the programs that are of interest to them. For 2021, we hope you will join us for many brand new never-before offered programs as well as some of our most popular topics from years past.
The 2021 Garden Series will kick off with Plants that Survive & Thrive on the Outer Banks, a familiar topic, but this year with all new plant selections. Dare County Master Gardeners have chosen plants that have done well in the tough conditions of the Outer Banks. Featured plants this year are Gaura, Echinacea, Seaside Goldenrod, Beautyberry, Hibiscus, Southern Wax Myrtle and Fig. Plants that Survive & Thrive on the Outer Banks will be presented Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.
Succulent plants in landscaping as well as an indoor plant has become a big gardening trend. A brand new program, Succulents, will provide information on these popular plants and their care. Join us for Succulents on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.
Weeds: Love them, Leave them, or Kick them out! is another all-new program to the series. This presentation will discuss common weeds on the Outer Banks as well as techniques to help manage them. Weeds: Love them, Leave them, or Kick them out! will be presented on Wednesday March 24, 2021 at 11:00 am.
Do you have an area in your yard that collects water? The program Rain Gardens talks about how creating a rain garden can help with stormwater management and the plants that will work well on the Outer Banks. Rain Gardens will be presented on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 11:00 am.
The 2020 Garden Series will wrap-up with Drought Tolerant Plants. Plants that handle dry conditions and still offer a variety of color and flowers are very desirable on the Outer Banks. Learn more about the care and maintenance of these drought tolerant plants. Drought Tolerant Plants will be presented Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at 11:00 am.
