Rock The Cape Festival Returning to Hatteras Island For 6th Year
Culinary art will join the visual and performing arts at Dare County Arts Council’s sixth annual Rock The Cape Festival, which will return to Hatteras Island Memorial Day weekend.
On Monday, May 28 The Inn on Pamlico Sound will bring the culinary arts to Rock The Cape, for the first time since its inception, with A Taste of Hatteras. From 5pm-10pm, guests that attend A Taste of Hatteras can enjoy delicious island-inspired cuisine from a variety of local restaurants. The event will also feature a concert on the sound, headlined by The Joey Harkum Band from Maryland. Virginia Beach based reggae band Sopoz and local Hatteras musicians Barry Wells and Steve Vang will also be playing at A Taste of Hatteras.
“A Taste of Hatteras is a great opportunity for Hatteras Island restaurants to come together in one location and showcase their culinary skills, while giving back to the community,” said The Inn on Pamlico Sound’s Dining and Event Manager Gina Williams. “Event guests can mingle with their friends while listening to great music and tasting all the wonderful culinary options Hatteras Island has to offer.”
Tickets for A Taste of Hatteras concert and culinary event are $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the event. Tickets are available online at RockTheCapeOBX.com now. Tickets will be available to purchase at The Inn on Pamlico Sound in Buxton and Dare County Arts Council in Manteo soon.
The annual Rock The Cape Island Art Show will also be held on Monday, May 28 from 10am-4pm. Over 25 artisans will gather at the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Community Center for the art show. Visitors will be able to enjoy live art demonstrations as well as live music while checking out local arts and crafts. Admission to the art show is free.
“Hatteras Island is widely known for intensely beautiful natural surroundings and exceptional fishing, but it doesn’t stop there,” said Rock The Cape event chair, Dare County Arts Council board member and Hatteras Island artist Randi O’Sullivan. “The dynamic and thriving community of artists here on the island has fostered the growth of galleries, restaurants, live performances and art events that make our area an exciting destination for creativity-seeking travelers. Rock the Cape 2018 will kick off the summer season with events happening all over the island. This is a celebration of the arts not to be missed!”
Festivalgoers are encouraged to shop the local art galleries on Hatteras Island while traveling from one Rock The Cape event to the next.
