The Dare County Library has announced that it now offers patrons access to a new online learning platform called “Gale Presents: Udemy,” which is designed to help adults improve work-related skills and develop personal interests through thousands of on-demand courses across 75 categories in business, technology, design and personal development.
Gale, a global provider of research and learning resources, has partnered with Udemy, the leading marketplace for online learning, to offer public libraries the Gale Presents: Udemy platform—a resource that can teach users an assortment of skills, including how to code, prep for IT certifications, sharpen leadership skills, produce a podcast, increase office productivity, tap into their creativity and much more.
“Dare County residents now have free access to this unique online learning platform that connects patrons to video-based courses taught by leading experts in business, technology and more,” said Dare County Librarian Meaghan Leenarts Beasley. “Users can explore thousands of continuously updated, on-demand video courses that match their professional goals and personal interests. In an ever-changing employment landscape that requires members of the workforce to constantly learn new technologies and build new skills that align with industry trends in order to stay competitive, Gale Presents: Udemy makes it possible for patrons to get to where they want to be both personally and professionally.”
Gale Presents: Udemy consists of an extensive selection of thousands of courses in major categories that range from cloud computing, data science, design and development to finance and accounting, leadership and management, marketing, human resources, IT operations, project management and sales, among many others. This top collection, which is curated from 210,000-plus courses from Udemy.com and powered by Udemy Business, also includes more than 15,000 courses that are taught by instructors in their native languages, including Spanish, German, Japanese, Arabic and Portuguese, among several others.
The on-demand courses—which are added and removed weekly as new skills and demands emerge in each field—are available for Dare County Library patrons to access anytime and anywhere, allowing users to download classes for offline use and listen via podcast-style audio or stream on Chromecast or Apple TV. In addition, the majority of video courses in the Gale Presents: Udemy collection also offer subtitles and/or transcripts to support a variety of learning styles and preferences. Supplemental course content—such as assignments, quizzes and practice tests—is also available, and once a course is finished, a certificate of completion is available to download.
“The Dare County Library is excited to offer our patrons this free online learning platform that provides convenient and high-quality instruction and a tailor-made experience for adults who want to upskill for a new job, advance in their current profession or deepen a personal interest,” said Leenarts Beasley. “This is an incredible opportunity for Dare County residents to learn about a variety of topics from world-class instructors, and we hope our patrons take advantage of all the benefits Gale Presents: Udemy has to offer members of the Dare County community.”
