Aida Havel, candidate for Dare County Board of Commissioners District 4 (Hatteras Island) is holding a kickoff event on Monday, September 9, in Skyco, an unincorporated “suburb” of Manteo in Dare County, at the home of Joan Collins and Javier Orellana, 436 Toler Road.
“I chose to kick off my campaign in Skyco to highlight the other unincorporated areas of Dare County besides Hatteras Island, and to emphasize that I will be a commissioner for all of Dare County,” said Havel, who lives in Salvo on Hatteras Island. “Skyco has a rich history that is in danger of being lost.”
Havel, who describes herself as a “semi-retired peaceful divorce attorney” is running on a platform of listening to full-time residents, thoroughly researching upcoming issues, and building consensus among differing viewpoints. She has identified her top issues as cleaning up the Buxton Beach environmental contamination, finding creative solutions to Dare County’s long-term housing needs, and advocating for fairer fishing regulations and better access to health care.
The kickoff will run from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, with food, drinks, and live music. Suggested donation is $50, but all are welcome. RSVP to mailto:havelfordare@gmail.com.
