Firefighters prevent camper blaze in Avon from spreading to house
Fire crews from three Hatteras Island departments prevented a fire that started in a camper Thursday morning from spreading to a nearby home in Avon.
A caller to Dare Central Communications reported smoke and flames coming from a camper located at 40195 C.C. Gray Road at 8:54 a.m.
When members of the Avon Volunteer Fire Department (AVFD) arrived at 9:04 a.m., they found the camper was fully engulfed in flames that were threatening to spread to nearby trees and an adjacent house.
Firefighters from the Buxton and Frisco volunteer departments arrived a short time later and were able to quickly knock down the fire in the camper. They also kept the flames from spreading to the house, which suffered some heat damage. AVFD left the scene at 10:59 a.m. after the fire was extinguished.
No injuries were reported, and the residents evacuated the buildings. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Crews from Dare County EMS and members of the Dare County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the fire.
