The Cape Hatteras Secondary School (CHSS) baseball program, as part of a new 2023 community service initiative, will be hosting a free spaghetti supper for the Hatteras Island community on Monday, February 27, at 6:30 p.m.

The event will be hosted by the program’s middle and high school players, coaching staff, and volunteers, and will be held at the Lighthouse Assembly of God Family Life Center in Buxton, directly across N.C. Highway 12 from CHSS.

“Excitement is in the air as baseball season begins in four days. Monday marks the official start of the season as our high school team begins to practice, and MLB pitchers and catchers report to Florida and Arizona for the start of their spring training,” stated Head Varsity Baseball Coach Keith Durham in an update.

“The Hurricanes have been working very hard in the off-season to prepare for next week. In addition to the physical and mental preparations that the players have been doing, we have also been reaching out to our community to welcome everyone back to the ballpark.”

The goal of the community dinner on Feb. 27 is to introduce islanders to this year’s teams, and allow the players an opportunity to give back to the community, and invite the community to become a part of the baseball program as the new season begins. Preliminary plans are also in place to host an additional supper at the end of the season.

In addition to the free dinner, there will be drawings for Hurricanes Baseball apparel, as well as tickets to games and other prizes. Community members will also be given information about various ways that they can support the CHSS baseball program if they wish to do so.

Sponsors for the event include the following:

  • Conner’s Supermarket
  • Food Lion
  • Frisco Rod & Gun
  • Sonny’s Restaurant
