Dare County Announces New Year’s Closures and Trash Collection Changes

All Dare County offices will be closed on Monday, January 2, 2023 in observance of the New Year’s holiday. The Dare County C&D Landfill, Buxton Transfer Station and Manteo Recycle Yard will be closed on Monday, January 2, 2023 in observance of the New Years holiday. These sites will reopen on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.

Dare County Public Works—which provides trash collection for the unincorporated areas of the county as well as the Town of Kitty Hawk—has also announced its revised collection schedule in observance of the 2023 New Year’s Day.

Residential trash collection for the week of January 2, 2023 through January 6, 2023 will take place as follows:

  • Monday, January 2, 2023: Closed – No trash collection.
  • Tuesday, January 3, 2023: Kitty Hawk, Colington, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras
  • Wednesday, January 4, 2023: Manteo, Wanchese, Manns Harbor, East Lake, Stumpy Point, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo and Avon
  • Thursday, January 5, 2023: Kitty Hawk, Colington, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras
  • Friday, January 6, 2023: Manteo, Wanchese, Manns Harbor, East Lake, Stumpy Point, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo and Avon

Commercial trash collection will take place on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 and Friday, January 6, 2023. Normal commercial trash collection will resume on Monday, January 9, 2023.

REMINDER: The Dare County Public Works Department only provides trash collection for the Town of Kitty Hawk and the unincorporated areas of Dare County. Unincorporated Dare County does not include areas within a town’s limits.

If you are located within one of the six incorporated towns within Dare County, please contact your local municipal officials for information regarding any trash collection schedule changes in your area.
