As the winter basketball season approaches, Dare County Parks and Recreation divisions are recruiting referees to officiate league games.
General referee duties include calling a fair game and providing a safe and fun learning environment for youth basketball players. Player age groups range from 5-6 year-old co-ed teams to 16-18-year-old boys and girls teams.
Referees should possess a general knowledge of the rules but no previous experience is required. Training will be provided at the Parks and Recreation – Northern Beach Division office on December 14, 2022. Applicants must be 17 years or older and have reliable transportation. Referees are paid $30 per game and can expect to officiate three to four games per day.
Parks and Recreation – Roanoke Island/Mainland Division Information:
Parks and Recreation – Roanoke Island/Mainland Division basketball games begin on January 7, 2023 and will take place on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Manteo Middle School and the Lions Club Center Gym in Manteo.

Parks and Recreation – Northern Beach Division Information:
Parks and Recreation – Northern Beach Division basketball games begin on January 7, 2023, running through the first week of March 2023. Games will take place Monday through Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (youth and adult league games), on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (youth league games), and on Sundays from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (adult league games) at the Dare County Youth Center in Kill Devil Hills and at Kitty Hawk Elementary School.

Parks and Recreation – Hatteras Island Division Information:
Parks and Recreation – Hatteras Island Division basketball games begin on January 14, 2023 and will take place on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Fessenden Center in Buxton.
