NAGS HEAD — Mark H. Johnston died tragically in Currituck County on September 1, 2022, at the age of 57. He was born in Norfolk, VA May 28, 1965, and was preceded in death by his father Earl H. Johnston.
Mark or “Marco” or “Mark St. John” as he was lovingly known throughout the Outer Banks, was a popular and well-known local radio personality for years. He was a morning talk radio host on 102.5 “The Shark” and hosted “Marco In The Morning.” Marco’s smooth voice and jovial personality interconnected the local beach communities in countless ways over the span of his career.
Mark is survived by his mother, Rosa “Stevie” Leary Northwood of Elizabeth City, NC; two uncles, Wayne Leary (wife, Fay); and Christopher Leary (wife, Patricia) all of Shawboro, NC; other relatives; his radio family; and countless friends.
The family will honor Marco’s preference for cremation. A private memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
