New off-road vehicle ramp 63 opens on Ocracoke Island
The Cape Hatteras National Seashore’s newest off-road vehicle ramp, Ramp 63 on Ocracoke Island, is now open.
The new ramp is located about three miles south of the Ferry Docks.
VRHabilis of Knoxville, Tenn., constructed the ramp, which was paid for with ORV permit funds. National Park Service employees surfaced the ramp with a shell and clay mixture.
Ramp 63 is the last of four new off road vehicle ramps completed in the past two years. The other three are Ramps 25, 32, and 48 on Hatteras Island. In addition, the Inside Road connecting Ramps 44 and 49 was completed in 2015.
The projects are all part of the infrastructure initiatives that the Park Service expedited to provide more access to the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, especially for off-road vehicles, as mandated by legislation passed by Congress in December 2014.
