Ramp 44 reopens to ORV access
The National Park Service this morning reopened the popular off-road vehicle Ramp 44 in the Buxton area of Cape Hatteras National Seashore.
There is ORV access from Ramp 44 south for approximately five-tenths of a mile. The tip of Cape Point and the Bypass Road remain closed to all access.
Rap 43 is open to ORVs but only for one-tenth of a mile.
There is no through ORV access from Ramp 43 to Ramp 44 because of an existing prenesting protection area but shoreline access remains open to pedestrians.
ORV and pedestrian access north of Ramp 43 remains closed due to shorebird breeding activity in the area.
As a reminder, the nighttime restriction on beach driving is still in effect on all national seashore beaches from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
For up-to-date information on currently open or closed areas, check the Cape Hatteras National Seashore’s Google Earth maps at http://www.nps.gov/caha/planyourvisit/off-road-vehicle-use.htm.
