Statewide, more than 3.6 million ballots have been cast either in-person or by mail so far, accounting for over 46 percent of the state’s registered voters.
And in-person early voting in North Carolina for this general election is expected to surpass the record turnout in 2020.
According to statistics posted by the state Board of Elections on Thursday morning, there have been 15,869 ballots cast in Dare County.
Of that total, 14,879 votes were in-person, 856 civilian mail-in, 96 from overseas voters and 38 military.

The vast majority of the early in-person votes from Hyde were cast during a two-day period last week on Ocracoke Island.

The 2020 election was conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in a significant increase in voting by mail.
Absentee voting started later in 2024 due to a court decision requiring the removal of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s name from the ballot.
