Coastal Flood Warning issued for the Outer Banks starting Sunday at 4 p.m.
Strong westerly winds with gusts of 35-45 mph will develop late Sunday and last into Monday afternoon which will cause minor to moderate water level rises across the Outer Banks, per an update from the National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City office.
A Coastal Flood Warning has been issued for Dare County from 4 p.m. on Sunday until 8 a.m. on Tuesday. 2 to 4 feet of inundation above ground level is expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
A Coastal Flood Advisory has also been issued for Ocracoke Island where 2 to 3 ft. of inundation above ground level is possible.
The highest water levels within these areas are likely to be between Rodanthe and Hatteras Village, as well as locations adjacent to Kitty Hawk Bay and the northern Roanoke Sound. Flooding in several spots along N.C. 12 on Hatteras Island is possible.
