Crew of fishing vessel airlifted to safety off of Oregon Inlet
The crew of a 72’ ft. fishing vessel that was grounded approximately 1 mile northwest of Oregon Inlet is being airlifted to safety, per a Sunday online update from the U.S. Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet.
The station received a report from Sea Tow at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday morning that a 72’ fishing vessel had become grounded within close vicinity of the navigational channel. The unit responded by establishing communications with the vessel to assess the situation, and the crew of the vessel was airlifted by Sunday afternoon as a safety precaution by a Coast Guard team from Air Station Elizabeth City.
As of Sunday afternoon, the vessel itself is currently on the north side of the navigational channel, and it is advised that all vessels intending to transit Oregon Inlet remain aware, and proceed with caution until the situation is resolved.
