Dangerous Rip Currents Possible This Weekend and Early Next Week
Dangerous rip currents are possible along the Outer Banks and coastal North Carolina starting this weekend into early next week, per a Thursday afternoon update from the National Weather Service (NWS) Newport / Morehead City Office.
The forecasted rip currents are due to the potential development of a tropical or subtropical storm off the Southeast Coast. The National Hurricane Center has increased the chance that this will happen to 80%, sometime late Friday or Saturday over the Northwest Bahamas. Specific impacts beyond rip currents are largely unknown at this time, however, the NWS will continue to provide updates as they become available.
