NOAA’s Severe Weather Preparedness Week is March 1 through March 7
The National Weather Service office in Newport / Morehead City recently announced that this week, March 1 – 7, is Severe Weather Preparedness week in North Carolina, and the organization has launched a new website to highlight daily topics that are essential for safety and preparation.
The new website can be found at https://www.weather.gov/mhx/swpw, and during the coming week, information will be presented and discussed on a wide array of weather emergency situations.
As part of preparedness week, a Statewide Tornado Drill will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 4. The drill will be broadcast on NOAA Weather Radio and the Emergency Alert System via the Required Monthly Test (RMT).
The Severe Weather Preparedness week initiative is part of NOAA’s National Weather Service “WeatherReady” Nation vision, which includes a goal of increasing partnerships and efforts in public outreach and education for all kinds of severe weather. NOAA reports that with warmer weather arriving, now is the best time to review the dangerous weather conditions that the spring and summer seasons can bring.
The goal of this week is to help people in North Carolina learn more about the dangers of thunderstorms, tornadoes, and flooding, and other weather-related concerns. It is also a time for emergency management, public and private planning officials, and residents to review their own preparedness plans, and to better understand what to do during a weather emergency or disaster.
The public is invited to also follow the Morehead City National Weather Service office on social media for more graphic based information, via their Facebook and Twitter accounts at https://www.facebook.com/NWSMoreheadCity/ and https://twitter.com/nwsmoreheadcity.
