Strong cold front will bring high winds, severe weather to the Outer Banks starting Wednesday
A strong cold front will impact the Outer Banks Wednesday through Thursday morning, bringing a period of intense gusty winds, as well as the threat of severe weather, per an update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.
High winds with gusts up to 45-50 mph will occur Wednesday morning through Thursday afternoon, with peak winds expected late Wednesday night. Severe thunderstorms are also forecast beginning Wednesday morning and will continue through early Thursday.
A Gale Watch is in effect for all offshore and Pamlico Sound waters starting Wednesday afternoon due to south winds of 20-30 knots with gusts up to 40 knots, and very rough waters possible. Mariners should consider altering plans to avoid possible hazardous conditions.
