Wind Advisory issued for Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands
A Wind Advisory is in effect for Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands from 2:00 p.m. Wednesday until 1:00 a.m. Thursday due to a strong cold front that will move through the Outer Banks area, per an update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.
South winds of 25-35 mph with gusts up to 45-50 mph are expected, with peak winds occurring on Wednesday evening. Severe thunderstorms are also forecast beginning Wednesday evening and will continue through early Thursday morning.
A Gale Warning is in effect for all offshore and Pamlico Sound waters starting Wednesday afternoon due to south winds of 20-30 knots with gusts up to 40 knots, and very rough waters possible. Mariners should consider altering plans to avoid possible hazardous conditions.
