Cape Hatteras National Seashore advises visitors to avoid the beach adjacent to Ocean Drive in Rodanthe

Cape Hatteras National Seashore (Seashore) is advising its visitors to avoid the beach adjacent to Ocean Drive in Rodanthe, due to exposed wires, pipes and septic systems. The Seashore is working with Dare County and the Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative on the exposed hazards. Hazards, such as building materials and parts of septic systems, may also be present in other areas of the beach in Rodanthe, so beachgoers should use caution throughout the beaches in front of the village. 7th Annual Dare2Care OBX Shred Fest is heading to Rodanthe on May 18

The 7th Annual Dare2Care OBX Shred Fest will be held on Saturday, May 18,  from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and this year, the OBX Shred Fest is heading south to the Rodanthe Skate Park at the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Community Building. “We are excited to take this show on the road,” stated organizers in a press release. “We will continue to showcase local and regional bands along with live-action demos from professional BMX Riders, roller-skaters, and skateboarders.” Stand-out attendees also include an X-Games athlete as well as people associated with the upcoming Jackalope Contest in Virginia Beach. Dare County provides update on three Housing Task Force meetings held in April

The Dare County Housing Task Force held three meetings in April 2024. At its meeting held on April 16, 2024, Dare County Manager/Attorney Bobby Outten briefed the group on actions that have been taken by the Dare County Board of Commissioners to address the ongoing housing issues in the county, including the board’s recent decision to end its partnership with Coastal Affordable Housing LLC and return the $35 million in state funding allocated to Dare County in 2021 for the purpose of working with a qualified private partner to construct affordable housing units back to the state due to the inability of developers to make progress on such developments thus far.
