Coast Guard, Good Samaritan Vessel Assist Disabled Boat 12 Miles East of Oregon Inlet

On Friday afternoon, June 7, U.S. Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet received a report from the vessel Smoker via CH 16 that they had spotted a vessel that appeared to possibly be on fire 12 nautical miles east of Oregon Inlet.

After a crew from Station Oregon Inlet immediately launched, the vessel Smoker had determined that it was a flare at a reasonable distance. The vessel in distress was a 26 ft. cuddy cabin that was completely disabled with no electronics, and three adults and a child on board.

The Good Samaritan vessel Smoker had volunteered to put the vessel in tow to bring them closer to shore for the Coast Guard crew. Once the crew rendezvoused with the Smoker, they towed the disabled vessel back the rest of the way, and to the nearest safe haven. “Everyone on board was safe and there were no medical concerns,” said the U.S. Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet in an online statement. “Bravo Zulu crew and Smoker!”
