MANTEO –WesleyRudolph Peele, 85, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, in Nags Head. Mr. Peele wasborn on Hatteras Island on July 12, 1925. Mr. Peele was acommercial fisherman and former trucking company owner and was also acharter boat captain from the late 1950s until his retirement in themid 1990s on the Martha Ann and the Honey.
Mr. Peele served the Town of Manteo as a commissioner from 1983 until1985, was a member of the Manteo Masonic Lodge #521 AF&AM wherehewas Past Master, and served his country honorably in the United StatesNavy.
Rudolph was the son of the late Wesley Litchfield and Etta Stowe Peeleand the husband of 58 years to Maxine Russell Peele of the home.
He is also survived by one daughter, Martha Ann Peele Lewk and husbandJim of Coconut Grove, Fla.; one son, Thomas Wesley Peele and wife Nancyof Manteo; five grandchildren, Thomas Ryan Peele and wife Jennifer ofManteo, Nicole Lewk of Orlando, Fla., Shane Lewk of Coconut Grove,Fla., Lyle W. Peele and Cain W. Peele, both of Manteo, and onegreat-granddaughter Sailor McKenzie Peele of Manteo.
A celebration of life will be in Twiford’s Colony Chapel, Friday, Dec.17, at 2 p.m. by Rev. Ronnie Midgett. Burial will be in ManteoCemetery. Friends may join the family at Twiford Funeral Home 500Budleigh St., Manteo, on Thursday from 7 until 8 p.m.
