FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Kathleen Karr Butcher,passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, April 12, 2012, at herhome, two weeks short of her 90th birthday.
Kitty was born in Davis Run, Tyler County, West Virginia, was raised inDents Run, attended high school in Mannington graduating in 1941,graduated as a registered nurse from Fairmont General Hospital, classof 1946. Kitty was OR supervising nurse at Fairmont GeneralHospital and later worked for many years as office nurse for first Dr.John Coogle and later for Drs. Jenkins, Lindsay and Miller. Sheretired in 1991. In retirement, she read thousands of books,spent winters at the beach with her daughter, attended monthlyluncheons with her former classmates, was a member of the First UnitedPresbyterian Church, and provided a loving home for her beloved Siamesecats.
Kitty was married to George W. Butcher, Jr. for nearly 50 years beforehis death in 1998. She and George took great pleasure in theiryard on Ridgewood Road in Fairmont, which was filled with beautifulspring flowers at the time of her passing. She is survived by her son,George W. Butcher III, and his beloved Connie Thompson, who togethercared for “Miss Kitty” for the last 15 years. She is alsosurvived by her daughters Gee Gee Rosell of Buxton and Lynanne Wescottof Philadelphia, Pa., her granddaughter, Mesia Wescott Godfrey, andhusband Jason Godfrey and two great-grandsons, Austin Thomas and ColinRyan Godfrey. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces,nephews and dear friends. She was preceded in death by herparents Ivan and Mary Karr of Middlebourne, W. Va., her brother RobertKarr of Seattle, Wash., and her sister Virginia (Corky) Robinson ofMannington, W.Va.
Her family and friends will gather at the home Saturday afternoon,April 14, to celebrate her life and Gee Gee’s birthday. In lieuof flowers, Kitty requested donations to the Marion County AnimalShelter.
