NORFOLK,Va. — Lawrence S. McDaniel, 83, of Norfolk, Va., died peacefully inhis home Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, surrounded by loved ones. Born inFlorence, S.C., he was the son of the late Sanders R. McDaniel Sr. andthe late Blanche Windham McDaniel Cordrey. Mr. McDaniel was a veteran,having served his country honorably in the U.S. Coast Guard. He spentmany years in the floor covering industry, and retired from SouthernTile Distributors, Inc. in 1988. He started his own business, McDanielInspection Service, shortly thereafter, and retired again in 2000. Hewas a member of Khedive Temple, Ocean View Lodge #335 and ShrinersInternational in Norfolk.
Mr. McDaniel is survived by hiswife, Sybil Gray McDaniel. He is predeceased by a son, L. ShermanMcDaniel Jr. Also left to cherish his memory are daughter-in-law,Deanna B. McDaniel of Buxton, N.C.; son James R. “Buddy” McDaniel andwife Heather of Buxton; three daughters, Edna “Cissy” Nelson andhusband Jim of Fredericksburg, Va., Darlene O’Neal and husband Morris of Norfolk, and Cynthia Brodwater and husband Charlie ofStaunton, Va.; three sisters, Marlena Ruby, Arlene Fly, and DawnSturgeon; six grandchildren, Charlene Gilbert, Jason Gilbert, JoeyNelson, Rachael McDaniel, Mary Joy McDaniel, and Brittany Rose O’Nealand one great-grandson, Darren“Darren the Great” Paul, and numerousnieces and nephews.
Mr. McDaniel will always be remembered forhis extraordinary work ethic and accomplishments, love of life, family,and friends, great sense of humor, and spunk. He was a devoted husbandand wonderful father and will be deeply missed.
A memorialservice will be held at Buxton United Methodist Church on Saturday,Sept. 6, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dwight Burrus officiating. The familywill receive friends and relatives at their home at 50560 Highway 12,in Frisco. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made toShriners Hospitals for Children, via Khedive Temple, Ocean View MasonicLodge #335, Norfolk, Va. 23503.
