KILL DEVIL HILLS — Barbara Jean Crawford born in Braxton County, West Virginia in 1953, died at home in 2020. She is survived by her loving husband, JD Crawford of Colington Harbour, daughter Jennifer Crawford, son-in-law Frank Tuccillo and baby granddaughter Josephine Tuccillo, all of Brooklyn, NY.
Barbara was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She was an avid gardener who cultivated wonderful vegetables which she certainly never ate. She had a soft spot for Caribbean islands and “as seen on TV” kitchen gadgets she gave as gifts at Christmas time. She studied at the French Culinary Institute and made the best sweet potato biscuits ever (there was a vote on this). She had a lifelong passion for sweets, Diet Coke and the Weather Channel. She smoked Winstons, cheated at cards and always told it like it was. But beneath it all was kindness, love, generosity and wisdom for her family and anyone who needed it.
All who knew her thought she was a great gal, and all who knew her will miss her.
An open house to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held at 703 South Virginia Dare Trail in Kill Devil Hills on Friday, January 17 between the hours of 3 and 6 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara’s name to benefit special needs education in Dare Country would be appreciated. Contributions can be made to the Pauline Wright Endowment for Dare County through the Outer Banks Community Foundation, at 13 Skyline Road, Southern Shores, NC 27949, or can be made online at www.obcf.org.
Twiford Funeral Homes, Outer Banks is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences and memories can be shared at www.TwifordFH.com.
