NAGS HEAD — Charles Mike Reilly of Nags Head, NC passed away peacefully in his home on February 2, 2024. He was born December 30, 1945 in McKeesport, PA, the son of Andrew and Reta Reilly.
Mike graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, class of 1963. He attended Lehigh University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. He was a standout athlete in high school and college and won many awards and accolades in both baseball and basketball. He is being inducted into the West Jefferson Hills Hall of Fame in March, 2024.
He began working at Alcoa in 1968 where he met his future wife, Kathleen Whalen. They were married May 17, 1969. His career with Alcoa took him and his family to Buffalo, NY; Rochester, NY; Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; Hong Kong; Washington, DC; Natchez, MS; Lausanne, Switzerland; Frankfurt, Germany; Pittsburgh, PA; and after retiring, they relocated to Nags Head, NC.
During retirement, he passed his time working at various local businesses, served on the Nags Head Planning Board and was an active member of Nags Head Golf Links, where he won two senior championships. He was an avid game player and loved spending time playing cards and board games and spoiling his grandkids. He enjoyed telling elaborate bedtime stories to his children and grandchildren and was rumored to have taught Michael Jackson how to dance.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kathleen Whalen Reilly; his brother Timothy (Jackie) Reilly of Jackson, MS; his sons – Andrew Reilly of Zelienople, PA; Kevin Reilly of Raleigh, NC; Michael (Tanya) Reilly of Pflugerville, TX; and his daughter Erin (Mike) Kowalski of Beaver Falls, PA. He was also survived by two dear daughters-in-law- Danielle Cammisa and Marcie Craig. He will be sorely missed by his six grandchildren – Travis Reilly, Anthony Reilly, Taylan Coyne, Joshua Reilly, Gianna Reilly and Gavin Coyne, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
