NAGS HEAD — Elisabeth “Beth” Ann May, 82, of Nags Head, passed away on May 20, 2023. She was born on July 30, 1940, in Boston, MA to the late Irving and Eleanor Carter and raised in Greenwich, CT.
Beth attended California University of Pennsylvania, earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
She was a devoted Ark Church member and a former Outer Banks Hotline volunteer. Her career included serving as the director of the English Writing Lab at the Community College of Allegheny County. She was deeply respected by her colleagues and students, who appreciated her passion for teaching.
Beth was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Louis May, her second husband, Paul Spencer Selby, and her brother, David Carter. She is survived by her daughters, Sherri Lynn May and Leetrese May McMaster, her grandchildren, William Warren McMaster IV (Kaeli), Anna McMaster (Jamie Brumbeloe), Elizabeth McMaster, Therese McMaster, and Priscilla McMaster, and her great-grandchildren, Cora, Emerson, Julia, Henry, Finnegan, and Maple.
A viewing and visitation for friends and relatives will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Twiford Colony Chapel in Manteo. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at the funeral home. Private burial will take place in Cudworth Cemetery.
