WAVES — Selby Donaldson Gaskins, Jr., 61, of Waves, NC, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2023, at Currituck Health & Rehab Center. Born on February 6, 1962, in Elizabeth City, NC, he was the son of the late Mary Midgett Gaskins and Selby D. Gaskins, Sr.
Selby was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many. He is survived by his daughter, Victoria Jeffrey (Tyler); son, Zachery Gaskins; grandson, Jaxson Jeffrey; sisters, Katie Gaskins and Theresa Boykin; niece, Mary Christine Poyner; nephew, Caleb Ranhorn; and many friends including Glenn Boykin, Jr., Richard Peck, Jr., Paul Robinson, Kyle O’Neal, Joey O’Neal (Virginia), Dale Midgett, and Stephen Heinz III. In addition to his parents, Selby was preceded in death by his sister, Alberta Peck.
Selby was a proud commercial fisherman who dedicated his life to providing for his family and contributing to his community. He was a hardworking, dependable, and skilled fisherman who was well-respected by his peers and deeply loved by his family.
Selby was an avid outdoorsman who found great joy in offshore fishing, hunting, and spending time at the beach with his children. Selby’s passion for the outdoors was matched only by his love for his family, and he was always eager to share his knowledge and experiences with those he held dear.
In conclusion, Selby Donaldson Gaskins, Jr. was a man who lived his life with purpose, passion, and love. He will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his love for the outdoors, and his commitment to his community. His memory will be treasured by all who knew him, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those he left behind.
