MANTEO — Warren ‘Skip’ Teeple Jr, aged 78, passed away Monday, January 27, 2025, at Sentara Heart Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, as a result of complications from a long illness. His wife, son, and daughter were with him.
Skip was born on March 25, 1946, in Baltimore, Maryland. He played football and was on the swim team in High School. He was active in Boy Scouts and got his God and Country. He met Pat in 1961, and they were married in 1968. Skip got his bachelor’s degree in Business and Public Administration from the University of Maryland in 1969. He went into the Army Reserves and did his basic training at Ft Dix in New Jersey and his active duty at Ft Devon, Massachusetts, and six years in the Army Security Agency Reserves.
Skip spent twenty-seven years in the insurance industry as an HR manager. First for Royal Insurance in Detroit, Michigan; Hartford Connecticut; Chicago, Illinois and Dallas, Texas. He worked for USF&G in Dallas, Texas and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In his later years, he worked for Marriott in Norman, Oklahoma; PSMI in Waco, Texas; and Home Depot Expo in Dallas, Texas.
Pat and Skip had two children and spent most of their children’s childhood years in Dallas, Texas. Where they were involved in the Seekers Sunday school class at Spring Valley UMC. Skip enjoyed playing tennis. He was always there to cheer Jennifer and Tim on whether it was SVAA soccer, cub scouts, a 10 K or an Eaglettte’s halftime. Skip had a twinkle in his eye and a warm smile and always had a story to tell making him a hit with their friends and parents alike.
In 2014, he and Pat moved to Manteo, North Carolina, after visiting Tim there for several years. Skip loved Manteo and the surrounding towns. He had been a very active member in AA for 38 years at the time of his death. He loved AA here because of the people.
He was preceded in death by parents Warren Kenneth Teeple, Sr and Janice Keyes Teeple.
Skip is survived by his wife of 56 years, Pat; his son Tim Teeple of Manteo, North Carolina; his daughter Jennifer Marlowe and son-in-law, Jeff Marlowe of Austin, Texas; and grandsons Caiden, Eli, and Sebastian Marlowe. His sisters: Susan Teeple Busky (Dennis) of Reisterstown, Maryland; Linda Teeple Barr (Michael) of Tarpon Springs, Florida and Bonnie Teeple Ledford (David) of Catonsville, Maryland.
A celebration of life will be held at the Wanchese Community Building in Wanchese, North Carolina, on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 2:00 pm.
