Kathleen Sauter (soon-to-be Kathleen Lorenzo) and Peter Lorenzo from Florham Park, New Jersey were the first couple to have their picture taken in front of the new photo backdrop at the Dare County Register of Deeds Office on Roanoke Island. The Lorenzos were married at the Sanderling Resort in the Town of Duck on Friday, June 28.
The large map, installed earlier this week, showcases all of Dare County and provides visiting couples a unique opportunity to see the distinctive geography of the area. After completing their marriage license paperwork, couples are encouraged to place the repositionable heart or anchor in the location of their wedding and snap a photo to remember the occasion. A variety of wedding-themed signs are available to complete the snapshot. In 2018, the Dare County Register of Deeds Office issued 973 marriage licenses.
“After taking office, I knew I wanted to provide couples with a unique photo backdrop. Our staff is often asked to take photos of happy couples after they’ve completed their marriage license paperwork. They want a photo to commemorate this part of their wedding planning. It’s such a thrilling time in their lives, and we want couples to leave our office full of excitement and enthusiasm for their big day,” said Register of Deeds Cheryl House.
