Dare County Water Department provides update on multiple Leak Alerts sent to customers
The Dare County Water Department is informing Dare County Water customers that the Dropcountr app utilized by the department has sent a series of automated leak alerts to some Dare County Water customers. While these alerts indicate potential leaks at properties, in most cases, the leaks are very small.
Customers who received an alert may contact the Dare County Water Department at Water@DareNC.gov or 252-475-5990, where staff can review the status and severity of the leak and provide guidance on any necessary next steps.
These leak alerts are not new but have become more noticeable due to an increase in customer signups last month. The Dropcountr system automatically triggers an alert when three or more gallons of water continuously pass through a meter for 72 hours.

Customers should be aware that alerts are sent out in bulk, which may result in delayed response times due to a higher volume of calls. Due to this high call volume, customers are strongly encouraged to email Water@DareNC.gov for a quicker response.
Those who prefer to call the billing office are advised to leave a message if lines are busy. If you do not receive a response from a Dare County Water Department staff member within 24 hours, please follow up with another call.
Dare County Water customers are also encouraged to contact the Dare County Water Department’s billing office (252-475-5990) for troubleshooting assistance in identifying the source of the leak, such as a running toilet or service line issue. However, any necessary repairs will need to be made by the property owner or a plumber. Once repairs are completed, customers may apply for a leak adjustment.
To maximize the benefits of these alerts, we strongly recommend that all Dare County Water customers download the Dropcountr app and register for leak alerts by visiting DareNC.gov/Dropcountr. Please also ensure that your contact information is up to date by completing the online form.
