BUXTON — John F. Alwine, 79, passed away peacefully on Jan. 2, 2013.
Heis survived by two daughters, Robin of Avon and Diana of VirginiaBeach, Va., and his son-in-law and dear friend, Robert Schwingel ofAvon. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary of Ft. Wayne,Ind., and Marilyn of Spring Hill, Tenn., and brothers, Jim of Peru,Ind., and Marvin of Fort Wayne, Ind. He will be fondly rememberedby many friends and neighbors on Hatteras Island and his faithfulcompanion, Chloe, which he adopted from the SPCA.
John was a20-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, retired from Rea Construction inNorfolk, Va., and founder of Village Locksmith, now located inAvon. He was active in the Cape Hatteras Anglers Club and theBuxton Volunteer Fire Department. His passions were gardening anda good hamburger, which he enjoyed until the last weeks of his life.
A memorial service will be held at a later date for both John and his wife, Flora, who passed away in 2006.
