Beginning Monday, Dec. 5, the storm debris removal contractor in Dare County will begin the second and final pass for storms debris removal in all Hatteras Island villages and other areas of unincorporated Dare County.
All storm generated debris must be placed on the public right-of-way by Monday, Dec. 5. Contractors will not pick-up storm debris on private property or in areas where ‘No Trespassing’ signs are visible. If you don’t want something removed, remove it from the right-of-way or clearly mark it.
All storm-generated debris should be placed on a state-maintained road in the public right- of-way and separated as follows:
Only loose debris will be collected. Bagged debris should not be placed on the public right-of-way. Do not place debris near a water meter vault, fire hydrant or any other above-ground utility.
The contractor will be documenting as they complete storm debris removal on roadways. Anything placed on the roadway following the final pass will be considered illegal dumping. Violators will be subject to prosecution. Household Hazardous Waste pickup will begin in all areas mentioned above on Wednesday, Nov. 30.
