Coastal low will produce gusty winds, rough surf and possible coastal flooding starting Tuesday night
An area of low pressure is forecast to strengthen off the North Carolina coast Tuesday night and Wednesday, producing gusty winds, rough surf and possibly minor coastal flooding, per a Monday afternoon update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.
Minor coastal flooding 1-2 ft. above ground level is possible for soundside areas adjacent to the southern Pamlico Sound. Rough surf is expected, and minor beach erosion is possible for oceanside locations north of Cape Hatteras.
NNE wind gusts of 40-50 mph are expected along the coast Wednesday morning and afternoon, and 8-14 ft. seas north of Ocracoke Island, (and 5 -9 ft seas south of Ocracoke Island), are also forecast for Wednesday. Seas will slowly subside Wednesday night and Thursday.

Surf!
And remember, overwash is beneficial and necessary for this islands survival. It builds and nurtures, while dunelines erodes the beach and sound.
It may be an inconvenience, but it needs to flow.
