Dare County EMS, Sheriff’s Office first responders deploy to Western North Carolina to assist with rescue efforts
On Saturday, September 28, a medic unit and a Quick Response Vehicle (QRV) with a total of four Dare County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) first responders deployed to Rutherford County to assist with rescue and recovery efforts in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene.
On Sunday, September 29, the Dare County Sheriff’s Office also deployed three telecommunicators and five Sheriff deputies to Henderson County to assist with rescue and recovery efforts.
“We were happy to be in a position to assist in the efforts,” said Dare County EMS Director Chief Jennie Collins. “With our area’s experience with storm aftermath, we have been on the receiving end of getting outside assistance and it means a lot to be able to go help other agencies.”
The North Carolina Office of EMS and N.C. Sheriffs’ Association have requested assistance from across the state to help the areas of the state that were devastated by the storm. The Dare County EMS and Dare County Sheriff’s Office teams are joining several others from throughout the state of North Carolina who are deploying to support rescue operations.
Two additional Sheriff deputies will be deployed on Monday, September 30. The team of four EMS first responders is prepared to stay in Rutherford County for four to six days, working to assist those affected by the storm. If the state requests additional deployments, Dare County EMS and the Dare County Sheriff’s Office will send replacements to continue to provide assistance.
