Excessive heat expected to continue through Friday
Hot and humid weather will continue through the rest of the week, as temperatures remain in the high 80s with heat indices up to 100 degrees or more, per a recent update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.
Per the National Weather Service, high temperatures will linger through Friday, as the heat index reaches 100-105 in eastern North Carolina, and the high-90s along the Outer Banks.
A moderate risk of rip currents is also forecast for all beaches south of Cape Point in Buxton for the next several days, due to strong southwest winds, and a Small Craft Advisory is also in effect until Thursday morning. A “moderate risk” means that life-threatening rip currents are possible, and the public is advised to swim near a lifeguard and use caution when entering the ocean waters.
