N.C. Highway 12 Remains Open and Passable; NCDOT Reports Standing Water, Sand on Roadway
Though N.C. Highway 12 remained open and passable as of noon on Saturday, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) advised travelers to use caution, as there remained some blown sand and areas of deep standing water from heavy rains on several sections of the roadway.
“Our crews are out this morning cleaning up the trouble spots, so please drive carefully. No other issues are expected from this storm,” stated the NCDOT in an online update.
Standing water was particularly a concern in the Tri-villages, north of Rodanthe, and in sections of Pea Island, per multiple reports. The U.S. Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office also noted that the rains and wind were moving offshore as of Saturday morning, with clearer weather ahead and temperatures remaining in the low-40s.
