Ocracoke Convenience Site to only take household waste through Tuesday due to road conditions
Effective immediately, the Ocracoke Convenience Site will only be accepting household solid waste, per a Wednesday update from Hyde County.
“The site will not accept recyclables, construction debris, or yard waste until Tuesday, April 2, 2024,” stated Hyde County in a March 27 press release. “Weather and road conditions are projected to hinder transportation to and from the island, limiting space at the convenience site.”
Per an update from the N.C. Ferry System, the highway and Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry operations are expected to be closed for several more days. The Ocracoke-Swan Quarter and Ocracoke-Cedar ferries are running as scheduled, but reservations are strongly recommended.
