A water line break has been reported in between the villages of Avon and Buxton as of 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 21.
Avon village residents, businesses, and vacationers are cautioned to use water sparingly until further notice, as water distribution to the Avon water tower has been turned off, while the break and required repairs are being assessed.
Though the exact extent of the damage is unknown, North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) personnel were at the site as of 7:15 p.m. on Thursday to assess the damage.
Travelers along N.C. Highway 12 are advised to slow down and use caution, as standing water exists close to the site, (just south of the Canadian Haul soundside beach access), and work will likely be performed close to the roadway to address the issue.
The Island Free Press will post updates as soon as they become available.
