Excessive heat continues on Thursday; Heat Advisory in effect for the Outer Banks
Hot weather will continue on Thursday, with temperatures well into the 90s and high humidity creating dangerous heat indices in the 105-115 degree range this afternoon, per an update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.
A high risk of rip currents is also forecast Thursday from the tip of Cape Hatteras to Cape Lookout, due to a south/southwest breeze that will generate choppy surf on southern Hatteras and Ocracoke islands.
A Heat Advisory has been issued for all of Eastern N.C. from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m., including the Outer Banks, for heat index values of 105-110 on Monday afternoon and evening.
