High Risk of Rip Currents remains in effect as TD #15 moves away from the coast
As Tropical Depression 15 moves away from the N.C. coast, a high risk of rip currents remains in effect from Oregon Inlet to Cape Lookout on Tuesday, per an update from the National Weather Service (NWS) Newport / Morehead City office.
Increased swell from Tropical Depression 15, which developed off of N.C. on Monday, will continue to impact the Outer Banks on Tuesday. The strongest rip currents will likely occur within a couple of hours of low tide, which is forecast to occur around 2-3 p.m.
A high risk of rip currents means that life-threatening rip currents are likely, and the surf zone is dangerous for all levels of swimmers.
