Water line break reported in between Avon and Buxton; Repairs underway

A water line break has been reported in between Avon and Buxton, and crews are at the site as of 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon to conduct repairs. Per the Dare County Water Department, the water supply for Avon residents should not be drastically impacted or shut off, however, water pressure may be reduced.

Though the exact extent of the damage is unknown as of Tuesday afternoon, repairs are expected to be complete by Tuesday evening.

Travelers on N.C. Highway 12 are advised to slow down and use caution, as work is being performed close to the roadway, and multiple vehicles are parked along the shoulder.

Three previous water line breaks occurred in a similar location in 2021, including one on June 3, one on June 10, and one on July 1. All three previous breaks were repaired within a few hours’ time.
